A student in the Communication Individually Initiated Concentration chooses to take a photojournalism track

Career choices in the Communication field are expansive. Occasionally, students have an interest in a subject area not covered in our traditional minors and concentrations. The Media and Communication Arts Individually Initiated Minor or Concentration allows a student to explore a career choice using courses from our catalog in consultation with a Communication Department faculty advisor.

Students fill out an application to launch an IIM/IIC and then work with a Communication faculty advisor whose expertise is closest to the career option the student wishes to pursue.

An IIM/IIC may include courses from within the categories in the general Media and Communication Arts requirements, if applicable. Examples of individually initiated programs are: Photojournalism, Event Planning, Music & Audio Production, and Political Media Management.
