The Curry College Video Gaming Studies minor is one of the only programs of its kind in the area to train students in the practical skills of game design while also incorporating a critical analysis of video games with the gaming industry's business. This five-course minor is available to all majors with a career interest in and around the gaming industry. Potential career paths could include a technical, creative or business role such as game designer, artist, writer, critic, business manager, producer, marketer, or sales representative. 

As part of this program, faculty across several disciplines – including business, marketing, creative writing, digital art, music, computer science, and sport and recreation management, collaborate to create new interdisciplinary projects and assignments. Students in a music composition course might partner with students in the game design class, for example, to help create soundtracks for games as a final project. Another potential co-curricular program may include the launch of a Curry College Twitch Stream, a popular live streaming platform for gamers.

Communication students may also concentrate in Video Gaming Studies.

Other COM Concentrations:

You may also create your own concentration through our Individually Initiated Concentration option. Examples of IICs include photojournalism, event planning, and political media management.

Semester in LA, NYC, and DC

Curry students can apply for a once in a lifetime experience – a semester away. Our students have lent their talents to Hollywood movie sets, to NBC, and even The White House. They’ve set the stage for the crime scenes on CBS’s Criminal Minds, and have learned how Jimmy Kimmel keeps us all laughing.
