A new student moves in to the Curry College residence halls

Please note that each standard single/double comes with one dresser (4 shelves), a desk (3-4 drawers), a desk chair, a twin-XL bed frame, a twin-XL mattress, windows that have blinds, a closet with shelves, OR a combination of similar furniture that equate to a comparable amount of provided storage space per student.

  • Refrigerator (not to exceed 6.5 cubic feet and outside dimensions of no more than 48 inches in length or width, one per room) 
  • Microwave (not to exceed .7 cubic feet, one per room)

The following items should NOT be brought to the residence halls: 

  • Electric appliances with exposed heating elements including, but not limited to, hot plates, immersion heaters, indoor/outdoor grills, and toaster ovens 
  • Any upholstered or unreasonably large outside furniture i.e., futon, couches, loveseats, tv stands (except for suite style living) 
  • Air conditioners 
  • Humidifiers or dehumidifiers 
  • Firearms, weapons, firecrackers/explosives, harmful chemicals 
  • Waterbeds 
  • Halogen and lava lamps 
  • Space heaters 
  • Pets of any kind except for non-carnivorous fish 
  • Candles 
  • Extension cords 
  • Hover boards, self-propelled scooters, similar devices 
  • Cumulative wall postings cannot exceed more than 50% of one wall. Postings include large tapestries/flags/posters, art pieces, photos, etc. 
  • Personal exercise equipment including weight benches, treadmills, elliptical machines, etc.  
  • Aerials, drones, or other such equipment outside of the confines of the resident's assigned room. 
  • Black and neon lights  
  • Internal combustion engines 
  • Open flame and/or lighted objects such as candles, incense, gasoline, and kerosene lamps. This includes lighter fluid 
  • Lofts and/or bars 
  • Pets, except for non-carnivorous fish 
  • Wall coverings & tapestries cannot take up more than 50% of the wall space in any room (per wall). Items cannot be hung from the ceiling or cover any life safety device
  • Other items that are deemed by Curry College professional staff (Resident Assistant, Community Director, etc) to present safety hazards or risks

It can be hard to know what to take with you. The following questions will help you identify important things that may not be on the list!

  • What will I use to bathe myself? 
  • What items do I need to cook for or feed myself? 
  • What items do I need to be able to clean my room? 
  • What do I need to do laundry? 
  • What will I use to study in my dorm? 
  • Where will I keep snacks/food? 
  • What will I want to have if I catch a cold? 
  • How do I want to spend my down time?  
  • What items could I never live without? 
  • What clothes will keep me comfortable in New England weather (temperatures ranging from below 0 degrees Fahrenheit in winter to upwards of 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit in spring to summer)?
