Student Health Insurance Plan

All students enrolled in at least 75% of the full-time curriculum are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage.

To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, undergraduate students registered for 9 or more credits are automatically enrolled and billed for the SHIP. Graduate students, with the exception of the AE-MSN program, are not eligible for the Student Health Insurance Plan as these programs are made up of short-term courses that meet once a week for 15 weeks or less per semester.

If a student has health insurance and does not need the Curry College health insurance plan, the student MUST complete a waiver. To waive the insurance, proof of alternate health coverage is required, and the alternate health insurance must meet certain criteria. According to the state regulation comparable coverage is considered a health plan that provides comprehensive coverage, including preventive care, emergency services, surgical services, hospitalization benefits, ambulatory patient services, and mental health services. In addition, the services covered need to be reasonably accessible to the student in the area where the student attends school. Students are not allowed to waive coverage if their insurance carrier is from outside the U.S. (international insurance) or traveler's insurance.

If a waiver form is not submitted by the published waiver deadline the student will automatically be enrolled in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts Student Health Insurance Plan.

The waiver form can be found online at universityhealthplans.com/curry.

Students and/or parents/guardians with questions about waiver requests, eligibility, enrollment, benefits or claims may directly contact University Health Plans at 833-251-1731 or info@univhealthplans.com.

Billing

A student’s health insurance will be billed for services provided at Curry College Health Center. However, students are not responsible for copayments, co-insurance, or deductibles as these costs are covered by the Curry College comprehensive fee. Student Health Insurance will be billed for any laboratory testing, imaging, prescriptions, or specialty care outside of the Curry Health Center. For these services, any co-payments, co-insurance, or deductibles incurred, are the responsibility of the student as outlined in the student’s health insurance plan.
