Hazel L. Varella, Social Studies Department Chair for the Town of Easton, Massachusetts, for thirty-three years, retired after forty years of secondary public education. She was the first social studies instructor in the Evening Division of Stonehill College and has been a part-time instructor at Curry College since 1988. Hazel has been nationally recognized as an expert in teaching strategies for local history and has written several publications about Easton. A College Board consultant in Advanced Placement United States History, she frequently conducts workshops for teachers about pragmatic strategies for the examination. Her desire is to make students interested in and knowledgeable about history and its importance to everyone.
